The Artist
Jermaine W. Griffin.
Born Jermaine W. Griffin November 1st 1972 in Harlem Hospital, New York City.
His Mother who enrolled him in art classes at the early age of nine noticed Jermaine’s talent, passion, and interest in art. From this point forward Jermaine's work began turning heads. Involved in contests, homecoming floats, costume designs, creating banners, t-shirts, and painting murals for community churches and neighborhood youth centers Jermaine continued to be noticed throughout his High School years. While in High School he became a barber at the age of fourteen continuing to demonstrate his artistic talents in hair. Today he would be recognized as a master barber creating masterpieces in cutting and designing hair.
Jermaine continued his education as a business major at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY. and graduating in 1994 with associates in business administration. While still in college he gets his first break in the art field. In 1993, Jermaine is hired by Tommy Boy Records to illustrate Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's legendary music group, De La Soul's third album cover called "Bahloone Mind State." While touring and promoting the release of this album the group approached Jermaine with opportunity to go on tour with them as their personal hair stylist, and he did. Then he immediately began styling and cutting the hair of other celebrities, such as Souls of Mischief, Tribe Called Guest, The Alcoholics, Robin Crawford, Common, Far Side, and Chico Benymon. This then opened more doors in Jermaine's artistic career.
Robin Crawford of Nippy Incorporated commissioned Jermaine to paint Whitney Houston's portrait for their tour jacket design, and then for years Jermaine was commissioned by night club promoters, Joe Jaxson and Steve G to paint elaborate murals for such celebrity parties as Foxy Brown's Platinum Party, and Busta Rhymes' Platinum Party at the famous club in Manhattan called The Roxy.
Jermaine has also exhibited 10 of his original works at The Lisa Eickholt Art Gallery on Broadway in Manhattan, NY and was commissioned to paint a motorcycle for Fubu's platinum clothing line. This motorcycle showcased Fat Albert's character and Fubu's logo which was then used in a popular Burger King commercial. This lead to Jermaine's charity work with Chico Benymon from the television series "Half & Half" creating and designing artwork for Children's Team Basketball jerseys. Even Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician "Grand Master Flash" has commissioned work from Jermaine.
In the summer of 2013, Jermaine exhibited and successfully sold his work at the "Harlem Fine Art Show" in Martha Vineyard, Massachusetts and is in the midst of planning and preparing for his next exhibition.
